Global Senior Artist Carol Mackie’s Eye Makeup Essentials

Add these eye buys to cart

Ever wondered exactly the products a pro makeup artist not only swears by, but actually packs in their kit? We turned to our Global Senior Artist Carol Mackie for her expert-approved selection of the five eye makeup essentials we not only need to discover – but also to add to our own makeup arsenals.

ART LIBRARY: PALETTES

“I can’t live without these eyeshadow palettes in my kit,” says Mackie. “Designed by pro makeup artists, they have all of the essential eyeshadow shades, with 12 in each palette. The Nude Model palette has all of the lovely neutrals; think creamy shades in both lighter and deeper shades that are easy to apply, and come in both matte and shimmer textures. Flame-Boyant is my personal favourite; it contains rich, warm shades in varied matte and shimmer textures. Lastly, It’s Designer is filled with bright, richly pigmented shades that are fun to wear!”

PRO LONGWEAR PAINT POTS

The creamy Pro Longwear Paint Pots are a must-have in my kit, says Mackie. “They are amazing to use alone as a long-wearing eyeshadow that goes on creamily and sets; they last all day without moving, creasing or cracking, however I love to apply them sheer as a base and add eyeshadow on top. By using it on the base, it helps to intensify the colour of the eyeshadow, regardless of whether you’re using a matte, frost, shimmer or pigment eyeshadow. I recommend using the 217S Blending Brush when applying these, as they are then easily blend over the eyelid.”

224S TAPPERED BLENDING BRUSH

This is a favourite brush for quickly applying and blending out eyeshadows for a smooth, professional finish, says Mackie. “It’s also great for adding colour through the crease of the eye because the soft bristles form a dome shape, making it super easy to blend.”

EXTENDED PLAY GIGABLACK LASH MASCARA

Calling it her favourite mascara, Mackie swears by the wand on the Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara.“The tiny wand makes it super easy to manipulate between the lashes, helping to separate, lengthen, and build up to the fullness that you desire,” she explains. “It’s perfect for giving bottom lashes a minimal effect, instantly creating lashes that may have been previously invisible!”

FULL LASH CURLER

“I could talk about this lash curler forever; I use it every day before applying mascara to lift my lashes and open up the eyes,” says Mackie. “It can literally change the look of your eyes in a second. The M·A·C Full Lash Curler is made in Japan from high-quality, professional steel. The band is curved, which results in no harsh, right-angled lashes, just smooth, upward-lifted lashes. All you need to do is open the curler between your thumb and middle finger and place the lash curler at the base of the lash. Close it gently to ensure that the lash curler isn’t catching any skin, then squeeze firmly. If you have longer lashes, start at the base of the lash and curl once at base then again further up the lash for a smooth finish.”
